Berkeley 01 Grading Policy

Berkeley 01 Grade Scale

Berkeley 01 uses a standard letter grading scale along with a Pass/No Pass option for some courses. The letter grades are as follows:

Letter GradeGrade Points
A+4.0
A4.0
A-3.7
B+3.3
B3.0
B-2.7
C+2.3
C2.0
C-1.7
D+1.3
D1.0
D-0.7
F0.0

The Pass/No Pass (P/NP) option does not affect the GPA. A “Pass” is awarded for a grade of C- or better, while “No Pass” is given for grades below a C-.

Example

To calculate the final grade, suppose a student has the following grades:

CourseGradeGrade PointsUnits
MathematicsB3.04
EnglishA-3.73
HistoryB+3.33

Total Grade Points = (3.0 * 4) + (3.7 * 3) + (3.3 * 3) = 12 + 11.1 + 9.9 = 33
Total Units = 4 + 3 + 3 = 10
GPA = 33 / 10 = 3.3

Grading Policy

  • Pass/No Pass option is available for certain courses.
  • Students must decide whether to opt for P/NP by the deadline specified in the academic calendar.
  • Grades of P/NP do not affect the GPA calculation.
  • The decision to take a course P/NP should be made considering future academic or career plans, as some programs may not accept P/NP grades.
